Technology has been advancing throughout human history but in the past few decades technological advancements have been made at a much higher rate. One specific technology that has been focused on recently is artificial intelligence or AI, at a basic level AI is the ability for a computer program to think and learn. To some this may sound like a brilliant idea, for instance we are already developing self driving cars, for use in operations and human looking AI designed for things such as helping those that are lonely. Self-driving cars could be the future of mankind, to some this may seem like a brilliant idea think about all the possibilities. It would reduce car accidents significantly as the AI has much better driving capabilities than a human who can easily be distracted or not be able to react fast enough. If eventually all cars become self driven then they will be able to communicate with each other which would allow for much more efficient driving reducing gas emissions. Others believe that driving cars is something buried deep within modern society and if suddenly the ability for someone to drive a car was removed it could make people upset and take away from an activity that some people enjoy. While self driving cars are the future of cars tests have already been run with prototypes on real roads in Texas, which seemed to be going well until someone was hit and killed by one of these self driving cars, so maybe it’s too soon for these self driving cars to make their way into society. There has also been developments in AI in robots that look almost human. Now this is a freaky concept to take in, imagine in the near future there artificially intelligent robots that are indistinguishable from humans, this would mean that they would be smarter, stronger and faster, it sounds like something out of terminator. Although this is the case the artificial intelligence would never be able to do anything sinister towards us as we made them and could easily stop this from being the case. There are benefits to this human look alike’s though, they would be able to comfort people who are alone and maybe to anxious to go out into public and their sole purpose is to make others feel happy. Do you think it sounds weird having a robot as a friend instead of a real person? Surgery is very important, it saves many people’s lives everyday but there are still cases were mistakes are made or even the surgeons expertise is not sufficient which can lead to death in some cases. Artificial intelligence in surgery is already underway, there is a machine that hopefully in the future can complete surgery without any input from a human and will do it far more accurately and precisely. If this technology is successful this could be a breakthrough and save many more lives in the future.
Artificial intelligence will have a big impact in the future for all of us, it will change so many different aspects of our life. I think we should focus on the positives and all the benefits it can bring.

Hey there Brandon! Thank you for a very informative blog about A.I. I enjoyed the way you presented ways A.I is trying to be intertwined into todays society. You inform the reader about both sides of A.I, the unpredictability/danger, but also the benefits. “If eventually all cars become self-driven then they will be able to communicate with each other which would allow for much more efficient driving… seemed to be going well until someone was hit and killed by one of these self-driving cars.” This inclusion really makes you feel reliable when discussing such a subject, as it is an unbiased approach. The inclusive language you use, being “Do you think it sounds weird having a robot as a friend instead of a real person?”, draws in your audience, or at least drew me in, as it made me feel as if I needed to answer that question and give you my opinion in response to yours. However, when it comes to A.I in the medical field I feel as though you missed a large opportunity. A.I in medicine is fascinating and on the brink of being integrated in our time, but you don’t talk about how it could diagnose illnesses, help develop cures for diseases we haven’t etc. You also forget to mention the main fear of A.I, being that it gains consciousness and can now make decisions on its own. You could’ve used it to your advantage through imperatives by saying things such as “If we want to secure the safety of A.I we will need to limit it so it cannot become self-aware” or using rhetorical questions like “If we try to introduce A.I into too many aspects of our lives will we become useless, will jobs go missing or will they all out replace humanity”. All in all, I enjoyed your blog and everything you included, your voice was clear but informed, telling us the audience that you believe in A.I but also understand its flaws, showing us that you are informed on this subject and that your opinion in one to be listened to. Thank you for the good read and good luck with your writing in the future!
